Lent from From the Strawberry Patch...

We are already in the second week of Lent. Right on cue, the Lenten Roses are blooming, time marches on and spring is appearing sporadically. One day it's here and the next we're plunged back into winter. It's been a very sad time this past week, our dear daughter-in-law lost her precious mother to a horrible and aggressive brain tumor that appeared, so suddenly, just last summer. We will miss

Botanical Beauty block #9 from Nestlings By Robin

 Celebrate!

Did you know that the very first use
of fireworks to celebrate the 4th of July
was on the first anniversary of our
declared independence, July 4th, 1777!

In 1776, then-future President John Adams
sent a letter to his wife, Abigail,
outlining how the country's declared
independence from England should be celebrated.
He wrote that the day should be marked
with "pomp & parade, with shews (shows),
games, sports, bonfires, bells and illuminations
from one end of this continent to the other
from this time forward forever more (sic)."

The next year, a July 4th fireworks display
in Philadelphia ...

Botanical Beauty block #8 from Nestlings By Robin

 Welcome to block #8, Homestead.

House quilt block

This is a modified block from my Village Square
quilt a few years ago that was published in

When I named this block, I was
thinking about how the colonists came here
then had to set up a new home.
Having done that my whole life via
military transfers, I can't imagine how
much harder it was for them!!
My process was very involved and sometimes
difficult and yet I didn't have
to clear my own land or build my own
home when I arrived.
My food was already grown ...

Botanical Beauty block #7 from Nestlings By Robin

Welcome back for block 7, Laurel Wreaths.

You will make 2 of these this month.

Laurel leaves were part of my WLL quilt along
back in 2020 and HERE is the blog post
about the original quilt.

Since then, I have been playing with
other layouts. This is one of the layouts
that I have put into repeat as a fabric
design too for that exciting someday...:)

The symbolic history of the laurel is one of
triumph and achievement since the
original Greek Olympics and you
can read more about that HERE if you choose.

I find it a nice ...

Red, White, and Blue Checkered Spools Quilt from A Little Bit Biased

If you've been around here much, you know
I am a sucker for red, white, and blue quilts!

I was making my Honey Locust Checkered Spools quilt in June and
I just kept envisioning it in red, white, and blue!  So I just had to scratch that itch!

I had the white background fabric in my stash.  I actually designed that print for
the Riley Blake Designs Hush Hush 4 collection.  It was originally a creamy background
with tan stars and they reprinted it in white for their Lights On 2 collection.
The print is called Seeing Stars.  I ...

Sester centennial quilt along: Botanical Beauty block #5 from Nestlings By Robin

Welcome to block #5, Tulip Star.
I designed this block about 10 years
ago and planned to do it in red, white, and green.

Here is the center of the original.

It is soooo close to done:) and instead
of finishing it, I have created a
small wall hanging pattern and
now included it in my Botanical Beauty Sampler.
It has been enlarged and shrunk down
depending on my feelings for that project.

I am loving the red, white, and blue!!
So, now imagine making multiples of
this block and setting them together
as shown above.
What a gorgeous patriotic ...

Design Wall Monday - November 4, 2024 from Small Quilts and Doll Quilts

 Good Morning Quilters!

This is the political campaign button I wore when I voted early last week.   The election workers decided that since the Peanuts character “Lucy” was not on the ballot, they would allow me to wear it.  It is probably 40 years old.

I voted early because I am leaving tomorrow (election day) to go on a quilt retreat.  My strong belief that God is in control of everything calms me in preparation for the results in either direction.  Republican or Democrat leaders for four years; we will survive.  God is in control.

Here are a few small ...

Rough and Tumble Quilt in Red, White and Blue from A Little Bit Biased

Red, white and blue is one of my favorite color combos and I'm a firm believer that one can never have too many red, white and blue quilts.  I have a couple of red, white and blue flag quilts, a couple of red, white and blue star quilts, a red quilt, some blue quilts. I even have a red, white and blue Pineapple quilt.  But I didn't have a plain red, white, and blue patchwork quilt...so I set off to make one last June.

I grabbed lots of red, white and blue fabrics from my stash and ...

FF-UFO 2024 from Grandma's Red Needle

 First Finished UFO 2024!

I had this Patriotic Table Runner already thread basted (last year).
Last Sunday, I decided to sew all day and I did all the quilting! Straight seams take time and are a bit tedious, but to finish an item, it has to be done, right?! The binding was done the next day, and voila! Finished!

Available in my Etsy Shop

....and don't you think this little bugger showed up?!
It was hidden on the chair, in between other projects.

It's a small wall hanging I started last year. It's almost done; the gnomes ...

Glory Quilt from A Little Bit Biased

If you've been following along with me
on Instagram you may have seen a simple
star/flag quilt I made in July.  I finally got it bound and
photographed so I want to share the details
with you today.

In June of this year, I took a trip to McCall, ID, and happened
upon a really incredible quilt shop called,
J. Beck Home.  I was inspired by the red, white, and blue
fabrics and vintage quilts there and ended up
buying most of the above fabrics.  I had something like this
design floating around in my head for what ...

Three Cheers for the Red, White and Blue! from From the Strawberry Patch...

Inspired by the runners and table toppers that I saw on Doodlebugs and Rosebuds blog a short while ago, I decided to try my hand at some of these. I found this great patriotic border print and grabbed my 60 degree ruler. In no time at all I had these two runners and a table topper pieced and ready to go. I loaded one piece of backing fabric, sandwiched in some left over batting scraps, and
